As a rule, many of the best architecture and design museums are located outside of the United States — the Canadian Center for Architecture in Montreal, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the MAK in Vienna all require American design fans to show their passports before seeing any of the engaging programming typically presented at such institutions. 2015, however, might just buck that trend. With a flurry of architecture and design exhibitions opening across the United States in the coming year, Chicago and Los Angeles look just as promising as the European capitals.
Lipps told ARTINFO that the display, organized thematically, will include about 65 designers from international backgrounds, but she “cannot reveal the theme or the participating designers.” However, she said that next year’s triennial will — as in previous years — feature a range of design disciplines, including architecture, media design, fashion design, and product design. “A large survey of the most exciting, provocative, and innovative design work from the past three years.”
