NBWW designed Residence Inn by Marriott has been proposed in Coral Gables, right behind an existing Courtyard by Marriott.
Coral Gables Downtown Hotel Ltd., an affiliate of Greenville, South Carolina-based JHM Hotels, owns the 168-room, six-story hotel at 2051 LeJeune Road. It was built in 1971. The company filed an application to build a 166-room, 13-story Residence Inn by Marriott on the west side of the existing hotel on what is currently surface parking.
Coral Gables Planning and Zoning Director Ramon Trias said the Residence Inn by Marriott plan was heard by the Planning and Zoning Board on May 10, but it was not approved. He expects the developers to redesign the project and resubmit the proposal after the board members expressed concerns regarding the size and scale of the project and the location of the free-standing parking garage.
The hotel design as submitted by Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolfe & Associates (NBWW) shows a 219,693-square foot building with a pool deck on the sixth floor.
